Mr. Clifton has an LLM in Transnational Commercial Practice and more than 26 years experience as a litigator at all court levels in the United States of America. He is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. His areas of expertise include complex trials, arbitrations and mediations, and negotiations, advice and counsel concerning contractual disputes, class actions, regulatory matters( including environmental and wage and hour compliance), and reinsurance disputes at both the domestic and international level. Mr. Clifton was a recent guest panelist at the 2017 Global Seminars program on International Mediation in Salzburg, Austria. He has taught at Masyrk University, Brno, Czech Republic, and extensively studied issues in and litigation of Foreign Direct Investment matters, E.U. law, comparative law, and the structure of International Law.

 

Mr. Clifton developed a practice representing insurance companies and insurance brokers in coverage and reinsurance disputes. In this area, he represented insurance companies in actions against reinsurance companies, both foreign and domestic, as well as in matters involving the liability of reinsurance brokers and third party administrators.

 

Mr. Clifton has substantial experience representing public agencies, including the State of California and its’ Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in defense litigation involving complex civil and class action disputes before every level of state and federal courts, including extensive appellate matters at both the District Court and California Supreme Court levels. His areas of emphasis included contractual disputes, wage determination and labor law compliance, and private attorney general fee claims.

 

Mr. Clifton also represented clients in all forms of professional negligence/errors and omissions litigation, including lawyers (his original area of specialty), insurance and reinsurance brokers, real estate agents, and other licensed professionals as well as directors and officers of mid-sized private companies and non-profits.
